February 2-6 is News Literacy WeekJoin us at the East L & LC to hear speakers discussing how news/journalism is critical to civic life and engagement as well as democracy itself. Various speakers will focus on different aspects of journalism. All events start at 1:00 in the presentation area of the L & LC (walk past the Checkout counter on the right).

Steve Miller: Democracy and the Fourth Branch of Government

Why is democracy significant? An exploration of the press as a safeguard of democracy, the constitutional protections that support it, and the contemporary challenges confronting the freedom of the press. 

Steve Miller teaches political science at Modesto Junior College. His primary interests are in political theory and constitutional law. At MJC, Steve serves as an advisor for the Freedom Forum (Politics) Club. He is also involved with committees related to online education, democracy, and student scholarships.
